Dota 2 The International 2022: tournament details

Valve company has announced the latest details of the upcoming megatournier The International 2022 in Singapore this fall. The long-awaited and largest Dota 2 competition will last for 4 whole weekends in October. 30 of the strongest teams in the world will participate in it, they will face several stages of tough competitive selection.

The final Dota Pro Circuit tournament starts on October 8 with the "last chance" qualification. The playoff matches will be held on the territory of the modern Suntec Singapore exhibition complex. For the final stage, another luxury venue has been allocated – the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The record prize pool of the tournament is $1,600,000.

Participants selection

The annual tournament The International returns to Asia again, now in a slightly modified format. The organizers decided to increase the total number of teams and the duration of the competition.

As a result, the scheme of one of the previous international championships is taken as a basis. 12 teams will receive personal invitations to Dota 2 TI 2022 based on the rating of Dota Pro Circuit points scored in official majors and competitions within regional leagues.

To this dozen will be added 6 winners of qualifications by region (North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, Southeast Asia).

The remaining 2 participants will be identified in the "last chance" qualification from among the teams that will take second and third places in the qualifying regional competitions.

Tournament format

The top twenty teams will play in the TI–2022 group tournament from October 15 to 18. According to the organizers, 6 teams from two groups (each of which has 10 teams) will go to the next stage. 4 participants with the worst results from each group are eliminated from the competition.

The main battles of the largest esports tournament of the year will be played from 20 to 23 (playoffs) and from 29 to 30 October (finals) at two arenas in Singapore. The playoff matches will take place at the multifunctional Suntec arena, and the final match will be hosted by the local Indoor Stadium.

The enormous share of the total prize pool of $1,600,000 will go to the winner of The International, as well as the finalist and semi-finalists.

Detailed information about all participants of the tournament and the distribution of the prize fund by places will appear later, after the end of the qualifying competitions.
